I Tested Wondershare Virbo and Found out Its AI Avatars Were Not Realistic

Having to pay content creators to promote my products and services online is always a costly expense. And I can only speak for myself when I say that it’s often painful for my wallet.

But recently, I came across Virbo AI, and it may offer up a solution.

With this platform, I can create lifelike AI avatar videos in minutes without even needing any advanced equipment or editing expertise.

As you can imagine, the prospect of streamlining my content creation workflow was too attractive to pass up, so I took some time to explore what Virbo AI is capable of.

However, after a day's tests, I must say that the platform relies on template-based renders, which limits flexibility and leads to generic videos.

Also, its AI avatars appear unnatural due to frequent lip-syncing issues, and selecting voiceovers is tedious since there are no labels to indicate which sounds most natural.

Now, let me quickly sum up what I liked and disliked about the platform before we get into the nitty-gritty of it all.

Instead of worrying about video production equipment, I can access hundreds of pre-made templates to produce all kinds of video content for various use cases.

Some of these include e-commerce, training, ads, news, social media, etc. But what truly amazed me about Virbo AI is its extensive AI avatar library.

However, I will admit that navigating it can be tricky as a first-timer. It took me some time to get used to the platform, so that’s something for you to keep in mind.

I browsed through hundreds of lifelike AI talking avatars that encapsulate different genders, ages, professions, nationalities, etc. 

With all these options, I could find the ideal persona to narrate my dialogue. And it even comes with AI lip synchronisation to ensure the speech matches their mouth movements.

In addition, I appreciate how the platform offers multilingual support. This lets me convey the dialogue in English, Swahili, French, Spanish, and dozens of other native languages.

On top of that, Virbo AI offers AI script assistance that lets me craft the perfect message for audiences from scratch, making it easy to overcome writer’s block.

I can even ask it to help me rewrite, shorten or alter the tone of my scripts to improve the overall quality for the sake of better engagement. 

Besides that, Virbo AI provides access to various video editing controls for customizing the final output. I can freely adjust aspects like text, background music, subtitles, etc.

On top of that, there are several powerful AI tools that I can use to create and refine video content. Some of these include video translator, AI montage maker, AI clip generator, etc.

I also appreciate that the platform can be accessed via a mobile app. Whether it's on Apple or Android, Virbo AI lets me create videos on the go with seamless performance.

Having said that, it’s time for us to get into the more interesting part, which is its performance. Can it produce quality videos? Let’s find out!

How Was My Personal Experience With Virbo AI?

I was eager to see if I could use Virbo AI to streamline my video creation tasks. So, I carried out a few tests to see what its capabilities were like.

For the first test, I wanted to create an instructional/promotional ad video that focuses on showing audiences how to apply makeup.

After a few selections and tweaks, this was the final output that the platform produced:

The first thing I will say is that Virbo AI is heavily template-based. Because of this, the video outputs it produces will typically be less cinematic than I would prefer.

And this oversimplicity is what frustrated me most. While I could further customize the text and background, the video still looks and feels generic and unimaginative.

Besides that, the AI avatar was not as lifelike as I would’ve hoped. Her movements and expressions are fairly rigid and somewhat repetitive to look realistic.

Also, the AI lip sync didn’t work as well as it should. Most of the dialogue is conveyed well enough, but her mouth movements aren’t entirely rendered naturally.

All in all, if I had to rate this video, I would give it a 5/10 for effort.

For the next test, I wanted to see if it could work better with UGC-style content. Perhaps something with a more practical background?

To this end, I worked to create a short selfie-style recording of an AI avatar promoting a local neighbourhood barbecue. This was the result it produced:

Once again, it was a rather lacklustre result. Despite the more realistic backdrop, the video render didn’t turn out well, and it all comes down to the unnaturalness of the AI avatar.

The nuances in the character’s mouth movements are completely off and painfully so. While the lip sync feature seems to try its best, the strange distortions around the face work against it.

Plus, there’s little to no shift in expression at certain points of the message that would typically invoke a bigger reaction. Ultimately, the performance is too robotic to be practically believable.

For this reason, I would have to rate this video at a 4/10 at best.

What Are My Final Thoughts on Virbo AI?

There’s a lot to say about Virbo AI, so let me start with what I think is good about it. For one, I appreciate the platform’s speed and efficiency in creating AI avatar content.

With its vast library of templates, AI avatar selections, and broad production tools, I can imagine that anyone would be able to create basic videos in bulk without much hassle.

And since all these avatars are royalty-free, this means I can use whatever I create with Virbo AI for both personal and commercial projects.

Another aspect I really valued was Virbo AI’s AI script assistant. Because of this, I could create and refine my dialogue much more easily than if I had to handle everything myself.

But on the flip side, as I mentioned before, the platform is geared more to template-based renders. Because of this, there is little flexibility in video creation, which is why the outputs feel so generic.

Besides that, the AI avatars are not as lifelike as I hoped, which was disappointing. Most of them still presented lip-syncing issues that made them look unnatural, if not strange.

I also had problems with the AI voiceovers. With no labelling to tell which ones best sounded natural, I had to keep scrolling through dozens of options, and this was quite tedious.

Lastly, there was a fair amount of adjusting I had to go through to master the video editing tool. I eventually got the hang of it, but I couldn't just hit the ground running.

Overall, I expected more out of Virbo AI. I think it can help with simple tasks like presentations and explainers, but I wouldn’t feel confident publishing the video outputs for wider audiences.

Is There A More Effective AI Avatar Solution? Try Using Pollo AI Avatar!

Since Virbo AI is unable to deliver professional-grade AI avatar videos, I would suggest opting for another alternative, and after extensive testing, I find Pollo AI to be the best bet.

There’s so much to look forward to with Pollo AI, so I strongly suggest that you give it a chance. I did, and it can do what Virbo AI can, but even better and with more extras on top!

With Virbo AI, you can access an incredibly vast database of AI avatars, but I find that the results it produces fall short of professional-level standards. That’s not to say the tool can’t be useful because it can for several basic content tasks. But if you need undeniably stunning visual renders that look and act realistically, then don’t think twice about trying out Pollo AI.
